Turnstiles, Speed Gates & Barriers — Physical enforcement where a reader alone is not enough

Tripod turnstiles, full-height gates, office speed gates and vehicle barriers — integrated with the same credential as attendance.
  • Supply or supply & install
  • All 7 emirates
  • Free site survey

Where this technology wins

  • Physically enforces one-person-one-entry; a reader alone does not
  • Enables accurate real-time on-site headcount for evacuation and audit
  • Deters tailgating, which is the main weakness of an unenforced reader
  • Speed gates suit corporate lobbies without looking industrial
  • Full-height turnstiles secure unsupervised perimeters

Where it struggles — read this before ordering

  • Significant civil works — floor fixing, power and cable routing
  • Longest lead time of any element, and the main driver of project duration
  • Needs a compliant adjacent emergency escape route, which affects the layout
  • Throughput per lane is finite; peak flow determines lane count
  • Requires periodic mechanical maintenance, unlike a wall-mounted reader

Typical deployment: Sites where an accurate live headcount is a requirement rather than a preference — large construction projects, factories, ports, and corporate lobbies where tailgating must be controlled.

Device types

Specifications

Capacities and connectivity are shown as typical ranges across the models we stock. Your quotation names the exact model and its firm specification — we confirm stock and lead time before you commit.

Tripod Turnstile

Cost-effective waist-height control for site and factory entrances

Specification

Throughput
Approx. 25 – 30 people per minute per lane
Construction
Stainless steel, indoor or covered outdoor
Reader mounting
Integrated housing for face, fingerprint or card reader
Direction
Bi-directional or single-direction configurable
Power failure
Drop-arm or free-rotation release

Best for

  • Construction site gates
  • Factory entrances
  • Labour accommodations
  • Stadium and venue entry

Our note

The standard choice for site and industrial entrances. Combine with the site's emergency gate arrangement — a turnstile is never the escape route.

Optical Speed Gate

Glass swing or sliding barrier for corporate lobbies

Specification

Throughput
Approx. 30 – 40 people per minute per lane
Detection
Infrared sensor array for tailgating detection
Finish
Glass wings with stainless or custom cladding
Accessibility
Wide lane option for wheelchair and luggage access
Power failure
Wings open automatically for egress

Best for

  • Corporate lobbies
  • Commercial towers
  • Head offices
  • Data centre reception

Our note

Include at least one wide accessible lane. Finish is usually the item clients want to customise, and it affects lead time more than the mechanism does.

Full-Height Turnstile

Unsupervised perimeter control that cannot be climbed over

Specification

Height
Full height, typically 2.2 m+
Throughput
Approx. 15 – 20 people per minute per lane
Construction
Galvanised and powder-coated for outdoor use
Configuration
Single or double lane, entry and exit
Power failure
Configurable free-rotation or locked

Best for

  • Unmanned perimeters
  • Ports and terminals
  • Labour accommodation gates
  • Utility and industrial compounds

Our note

The correct choice where the entrance is unsupervised and climbing over a waist-height unit would otherwise be trivial. Slower throughput — size the lane count accordingly.

Vehicle Barrier & Gate Control

Boom barriers and sliding gates on the same credential system

Specification

Barrier types
Boom barrier, sliding gate, bollard
Credentials
Long-range card, UHF tag, face at driver height
Safety
Loop detector and photocell anti-crush
Integration
Driven by the same access controller as pedestrian gates
Optional
ANPR camera integration

Best for

  • Warehouse yards
  • Staff car parks
  • Labour transport gates
  • Industrial compounds

Our note

Vehicle and pedestrian gates normally carry different access rules. Loop detectors and photocells are a safety requirement, not an accessory.

Questions

Turnstiles, Speed Gates & Barriers — FAQ

How many turnstile lanes do we need?

Divide your peak arrival flow by the per-lane throughput figure, then add a lane for tolerance and one wide accessible lane. Five hundred workers arriving within fifteen minutes against roughly 25 people per minute per lane means at least two lanes, and in practice three so a fault does not stop the site.

What happens in a fire?

Turnstiles and speed gates release to allow free egress on fire alarm activation or power loss, and the installation must sit alongside a compliant escape route — a turnstile is never itself the escape route. Civil defence requirements are confirmed at survey and designed in from the start.

How long does a turnstile installation take?

Lead time is dominated by supply and civil works rather than by us. Expect several weeks from order for the units, plus floor fixing, power and cabling on site. If your deadline is tight, tell us at enquiry stage — we will be straight with you about whether it is achievable.

Can we start with readers and add turnstiles later?

Yes, and it is often the sensible sequence. Wall-mounted readers get attendance working within days while the turnstile civil works are planned and budgeted. The same credential database carries over, so nothing is wasted.

Need turnstiles installed?
