The problem

Why this comes up

Attendance and door access are usually bought separately, which means two systems, two enrolments per employee, two databases that drift apart, and a leaver who is removed from payroll but still opens the stores. It also costs more than doing it once properly.

Our approach

How we solve it

  1. 01

    Enrol once, use everywhere

One employee record and one biometric template drives attendance terminals, door controllers and turnstiles. Adding or removing an employee happens in one place, which is what prevents the leaver problem.

  2. 02

Set rights per door and per time window

Access is granted by role, by door and by schedule — the stores open to warehouse staff during shift hours only, the server room to IT at any time, the cash room to two named people.

  3. 03

Add anti-passback and interlocks where they matter

Anti-passback prevents one credential being used twice without an exit in between. Interlocked doors and mantraps are supported for high-security areas such as cash handling and data rooms.

  4. 04

    Log access alongside attendance

Every door event is logged and reportable. When stock or cash goes missing, the question of who entered which area and when is answerable from a report rather than from CCTV review.

Questions

Access + Attendance — FAQ

Do the doors unlock automatically if the fire alarm goes off?

Yes — this is a life safety requirement, not an option. Access-controlled doors on escape routes are interfaced to the fire alarm system to release on activation, and we specify fail-safe locks on escape routes as standard. Civil defence approval requirements are confirmed at survey stage.

Can we add door access later to an attendance system we buy now?

Yes, provided the attendance terminals are specified with access control capability from the start — which costs little at purchase and a great deal to retrofit. Tell us at survey that door control is a future phase and we will specify accordingly.

What happens during a power cut?

Door controllers run on battery backup, typically for several hours, and retain access rights and event logs throughout. Lock behaviour on total power loss is a design decision made at survey: escape routes are fail-safe and release, while secure areas such as stores may be fail-secure and remain locked.
