Where it is the wrong choice

1,000 fingerprints and 1,000 cards is a hard ceiling, and there is no Wi-Fi, RS-485 or Wiegand: the only route back to software is the Ethernet port. Indoor only, and the optical sensor struggles with worn or dirty fingers.
